Kath Bee video scoops top prize
Nelson children's entertainer Kath Bee was live on television when she learned that the music video for her song Dragons Under My Bed had won the Children's Music Video of the Year awards.
"I just stood there like a stunned mullet . . . I didn't really know what was going on."
Bee appeared on children's television programme What Now on Sunday to await the results. Her video was one of three which was open to public voting on What Now's website. The other two were both by Jason Smith and Belinda Simpson's band Poppet Stars, titled Baking and Senses.
Bee said she first wanted to thank final-year Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology arts and media student Aimee Herd, who made the stop-motion video. She was also grateful to Herd's son Cooper, 9, who designed the dragons, and Karl Stubberfield, who helped out on set.
Bee said she hoped to ride on the video's momentum and schedule lots of gigs in Auckland during Term Four.
