The driver of a van that hit a power pole in Richmond yesterday afternoon was taken to Nelson Hospital with a minor shoulder injury, but the accident brought down power lines in the area, a St John Ambulance spokeswoman said today.

Network Tasman said the accident on the corner of Champion Rd and Hill St at 4.25pm yesterday cut power to 1219 customers. Power was restored to 586 customers by 5.15pm but the rest were without power until just before 8pm.
