The driver of a crashed car on Main Rd Stoke had to be cut free because of concern about his injuries.
His car was sandwiched between two others in the three-car pile-up during peak traffic at 5.20pm on Monday night. Police said one car went into the back of another, causing that car to crash into a courier vehicle.
Nelson Fire Service senior station officer Rob Allan said they used spreaders and cutters to remove the side of the car to extricate the man who had suspected back injuries.
The man was taken to Nelson Hospital.
