A big outdoor concert featuring a lineup of leading New Zealand reggae and dance acts has been announced for Nelson's Saxton Field in early January.

The Summer Six concert on Saturday, January 9, is being promoted as Nelson's biggest outdoor music event of the summer. It will take place on the cricket oval at Saxton Park between noon and 8pm and organisers are hoping for a crowd of 5000.

Bands to perform include the Black Seeds, Katchafire (reggae), the Nathan Haines Live Band (jazz-funk), P Money (hip hop), Concord Dawn (drum 'n' bass) and Optimus Gryme (dubstep).

Summer Six is being backed by Nelson City Council as well as a variety of local and national businesses including radio stations and beverage companies.

Details of the concert were released by Dave White of the Phat Club. Mr White is also the organiser and promoter of the Phat dance festivals at Inangahua at the New Year and other times during the year.

Licensed bars and cafes will be set up around the venue on the day but organisers say they are aiming for a safe, all-ages event with children under 12 given free admission, children's activities available, and "friendly" security and St John health and safety workers on duty.

Tickets to the concert are $25 in advance and go on sale today, from Everyman Records in Nelson or CyberWorld Cafe in Motueka. Gate sales will be $40.

Should the Tasman Rugby Union consider taking legal action against the NZRU in order to save the Makos?

Yes, if it comes to that and they have a good case.

No, that's not the New Zealand way.

Don't know and don't care.
