A 16-year-old youth badly beaten at a party in Motueka last night has suffered a head injury.

Ambulance officers called to Pamarika St at 10.30pm found the youth, from Ngatimoti, on a grass verge on the side of the road.

He was taken to Nelson Hospital by ambulance in a stable but serious condition with a head injury, said St John Ambulance team leader Jon Leach.

He was in a stable condition today.

It is understood that there were several intoxicated youths at the party.

Motueka police have arrested an 18-year-old man on an assault charge and plan to talk to others.
