Police are continuing investigations into the violent death of a Nelson man on Saturday evening.
Troy Minto, 22, was shot in the chest during a fight between two groups of men which police believe stemmed from a dispute over a woman.
Richmond man Blair Robert McNaughton, 24, has been charged with Mr Minto's murder. Nelson Bays police area commander Detective Inspector John Winter said witness interviews were taking longer than expected.
Mr Winter said there had been no reports of further tension between the two groups, but police were continuing to monitor the situation.
McNaughton is also jointly charged with four other men with unlawful assembly and possessing a pump-action Mossberg shotgun. Mr Winter said the five would remain in Nelson in custody ahead of their next court appearance on Friday.
They are yet to enter pleas.
