Two baristas from the Richmond area will compete at a national competition after their success at the Top of the South Barista Battle.
The competition was held on Sunday at The Coffee Factory in Stoke.
Guy McCracken from Cafe on Oxford won the barista individual championship, and Tania Kitto from The Grape Escape was placed second. Both will go on to a national competition in Wellington in March.
The Coffee Factory general manager Hayden Thompson said the final for the Top of the South Barista Battle cafe competition was a tight finish between Espresso to Go and The Coffee Factory, with Espresso to Go edging ahead in the last round to take the overall Barista Battle title.
Four people competed in the individual contest while six teams competed in the cafe competition.
