Nelson College student Johny O'Donnell is among sports leaders and a mayor who have been appointed White Ribbon Ambassadors by the Families Commission to raise awareness of New Zealand's record of men's violence against women and children.
Johny, 15, a founding member of Students Against Violence, said it was great to be representing young people.
"That is an opportunity for men to take the leadership and for men to make the stand against violence. It's a powerful message, and our communities need to embrace it."
He joins, among others, Waitakere City Mayor Bob Harvey, rugby league legend Ruben Wiki and the general manager of the New Zealand Breakers basketball team, Richard Clarke, as an ambassador.
White Ribbon Day, held annually on November 25, is an international day of awareness for people to show they do not condone violence towards women.
