Alcohol ban sought

Nelson city councillors were to meet today to consider a request from police that alcohol be banned at Tahunanui Beach Reserve on December 5 for The Big Tahuna event.
Council staff have also recommended a ban from 2pm that day, when the completion of the barbecue area at the reserve will be celebrated.
Police asked the council to extend the alcohol ban as a way to manage potential antisocial behaviour.
