Nelson police are looking for 19-year-old Nelson student Leo Lipp-Neighbours, who was last seen at 4am on Sunday in central Nelson.

Acting Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Nelson, said today Mr Lipp-Neighbours' disappearance was totally out of character and police had "real concerns for his wellbeing".

Mr Wilkinson said police were not seeking anyone else in connection with his disappearance, which was reported on Sunday.

A missing person investigation has been launched.

Mr Wilkinson said Mr Lipp-Neighbours was last seen by friends at the Phat Club at 4am.

He did not know if he was drunk, nor what state of mind Mr Lipp-Neighbours was in at that time.

He was last seen in a distinctive orange Toyota Corolla station wagon, registration NQ7258, and police believe sightings of his vehicle might hold vital clues.

Mr Lipp-Neighbours is described as being 183 centimetres tall, Caucasian with light brown hair. He was last seen wearing a distinctive yellow T-shirt with black and red lantern writing on the front, blue jeans and black leather shoes.

Mr Wilkinson said Mr Lipp-Neighbours was a student in Christchurch and was living in Nelson with his family.

Mr Lipp-Neighbours could be in the greater area Nelson including Golden Bay and the Nelson Lakes area, he said.

He had not gone missing before and was described as "a good kid".

Mr Wilkinson said anyone who had contact with Mr Lipp-Neighbours on Saturday night or had seen him, or his orange car, should contact police.
