Tourists swell crowds at market day

Shoppers flocked to Nelson city's annual market day in Trafalgar St on Saturday, bolstered by a heavy presence of visitors from out of town.
Inner-city promotion group Uniquely Nelson co-ordinator Rowena Richards said 78 stallholders took part in the event. "It was fantastic – we had a fabulous day, with gorgeous weather."
Mrs Richards said thousands of shoppers attended the market day, and the feedback to her from businesses was that it was the best Trafalgar St market day so far, with good sales.
She said last year had been a tough one for businesses but there were plenty of visitors in Nelson at the moment, and they were keeping the city's retailers busy.
