The end could be approaching for biblical movie Kingdom Come, which has been plagued by financial problems for more than a year.

An application to liquidate the film's production company, South Vineyard, was made in December, but it was given until next week to raise $100 million to carry on making the movie, The Timaru Herald reported. A hearing into the application was set to proceed on Monday in the High Court at Wellington.

South Vineyard lawyer Stephen Brown said negotiations continued with potential backers. The film was to have been filmed around New Zealand, including the Nelson region.

In October 2008, about 1000 film-wannabes from Nelson, Takaka and Motueka tried out to be extras for the movie. Those who were picked were told to grow facial hair for the movie so they could look Arabic, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Roman and African-looking.

Many grew tired of waiting to hear when the movie was due to start and shaved off their beards.
