Three Victory residents have come up with a way of showing their opposition to the controversial Southern Link proposal which could see a major road built through the community.

Victory Community Centre co-ordinator Gareth Cashin said the three women, who wished to remain anonymous, had spent a large amount of time knitting a row of prayer flags, which say: "Preserve Our Reserve".

The women were active members of the community and passionate about keeping the reserve intact.

The banner hangs across the path about 500 metres from the St Vincent St end of the Railway Reserve.

"I think it's fantastic," Mr Cashin said.

"They're just marking this as a special place and doing a bit of protest, but doing it in a very thought-provoking way."

Mr Cashin said a number of people had commented to him about the flags since they were installed and shared the sentiments."It's a place where people recreate, commute and hang out," he said of the reserve.

"It's a highway and a byway for cyclists and walkers and doggie exercisers and kids on skateboards."
