Groups get share of $26,000
Six of Nelson's community organisations have received a share of $26,000 from the charity United Way.
United Way chief executive Don Oliver presented the donations to Get Safe Motueka, Golden Bay Community Workers, Lifeline Nelson, Nelson Budget Service, Nelson Rape and Sexual Abuse Network, and Nelson's Neighbourhood Centre on Monday.
He said United Way was a non-political, non-religious charity which donated money to community groups that helped young people, supported families or those vulnerable, or promoted health and independence.
A partnership between United Way and the Tindall Foundation had made the donations possible. Mr Oliver said that if local businesses got behind the charity, community organisations would see more money next year as donations stayed within the region they were from.
