A Nelson man on trial for raping a girl who was put to bed after she was comatosed from drinking has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of unlawful sexual connection with a girl under 16.

The man, who has name suppression, admitted the charge on the second day of a trial in the Nelson District Court yesterday.

The guilty plea came after the victim had given evidence via closed circuit TV. He will be sentenced on October 29.
