Nelson Tasman Civil Defence manager Roger Ball said this morning that Nelson's 24-member urban search team had been placed on standby but it looked like they would not be required.

Locally there had been no issues with damage from the Christchurch earthquake.

''We seem to have escaped this one but it's pretty telling for everyone to make sure you have your kits at home to be prepared to be on your own for up to three days.''
