Volunteer firefighter Mark Jenssen, from Stoke Fire Station, was among the top fundraisers in the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge held in Auckland last month.
Mr Jenssen raised $2330 in the event which saw him run up the 54 floors, 1107 steps, of Auckland's Sky Tower in 15 minutes and one second. The money raised in the annual fundraiser goes to the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.
Mr Jenssen was wearing his level-two firefighting equipment, adding an extra 25 kilograms of weight.
He placed 100th overall out of the 420 firefighters participating in the event.
The fastest time recorded was eight minutes and 45 seconds, and a total of $171,000 was raised for the foundation.
Mr Jenssen wanted to thank everyone who sponsored him and said he aimed to return next year and make the top three in the masters category. Mr Jenssen used the steep steps on Tamaki St, Tahunanui, as training.
