Firefighters from Nelson and Stoke were placed on standby at Nelson Airport about 2.45pm Monday after an Air Nelson flight from Christchurch reported a possible issue with an engine.
Air Nelson general manager John Hambleton said the pilots had indicated there might have been a problem regarding power to one engine.
The flight landed safely and a component was changed before the aircraft was put back into the air last night.
Mr Hambleton said the incident was rare and would be fully investigated.
Nelson Airport manager Kaye McNabb said it was standard procedure for emergency services to be placed on standby in this type of situation.
