Specialty Nelson food store Prego Mediterranean Foods has had a bit of a bad run lately.
First, it was news that the Nelson City Council planned to close the Halifax St building it operates from, because it is earthquake-prone. This was recently resolved when the council confirmed that Prego is "still very much open for business".
On Saturday morning, a rubbish bin was thrown through a front window and several bottles of chai latte and coffee syrups stolen.
Business co-owner Claudia Kern said she believed it was a random event. She was phoned by police just after 7am, after staff at the petrol station across the road saw the damage.
She said the break-in left shattered glass right down one aisle of the store and throughout shelves of goods.
"It's not the sort of thing we need. It's just the mess that it's made, which is so mindless for just a couple of bottles."
Ms Kern said the burglary had been filmed by a security camera.
