An outdoor recreation expo will be held in Nelson as part of a push to get more people more active - and returning safely.
The expo, being organised by Sport Tasman, will be held at the Tahunanui playing fields on November 11.
It will involve outdoor recreation groups, retailers, government and non-government agencies and commercial tour operators.
Sport Tasman community senior adviser Dave Tippett said he was not aware of any other expo bringing together those groups.
The expo was born out of an outdoor recreation forum set up to bring together different agencies to work together on getting more people active outdoors, and funding from the safer communities initiative Safe at the Top.
"We want to get more people more active, more often in the outdoors and have them return safely so they can do it again," said Mr Tippett.
The organisers want to attract exhibitors and sponsors for the event, and with free entry it would be an opportunity to give increased exposure to their products, services and safety, he said.
For retailers and operators it was good timing leading into Christmas, he said.
Local clubs and associations will be able to exhibit for free, and outdoor safety codes will be promoted.
