Police searching for Daniel Waka Minogue, wanted for questioning about a home invasion, believe he was in Blenheim on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant Brett Greer, of Nelson police, said inquiries had extended into the Marlborough region for Minogue, 31.
‘‘We believe that he is either avoiding police or is being looked after by associates of his,’’ he said.
Mr Greer said Minogue had links to the Mongrel Mob and enquiries were being made with the gang, especially in Marlborough ‘‘as we believe that as recently as yesterday he was in the Blenheim township.’’
Police believe Minogue has a firearm, or has access to one. They believe Minogue was involved in a home invasion in Canvastown on September 24. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in relation to that incident.
He is also wanted in connection to a domestic assault in Nelson last week in which his partner received facial injuries.
Minogue is described as Maori, Medium build about 165 to 176cms in height, with a distinctive crooked nose.
Police said it was possible that he had changed his general hair appearance by cutting his hair.
