UNCOVERED: Tree stumps exposed by erosion at the back beach Tahunanui.

The sea is continuing to eat away at Tahunanui's Back Beach, exposing the stumps of old pine trees.
Nelson City Council network services executive manager Alec Louverdis said the council was closely monitoring the erosion in the area on an ongoing basis and it was being dealt with as a "managed retreat".
Mr Louverdis said as root systems of trees and shrubs were compromised by erosion, they were removed.
The two remaining car parks at the back beach had shrunk as a result of the erosion and the council had recently established a new area at the last car park for additional parking to compensate for this loss.
The council has a dune and planting programme for Tahunanui’s front beach to reinstate previous erosion.
Mr Louverdis said work on the front beach was working well and followed on from the successful stormwater work at the Tahunanui Beach.
