Ring brings in cash for cancer
A one-of-a-kind pink tourmaline ring has raised $600 for the Nelson Breast Cancer Trust.
Nelson gold and silversmith Benjamin Clark designed and created a one-off sterling silver ring which he auctioned on website TradeMe.
After being asked to donate a pair of earrings to a breast cancer charity auction, Mr Clark decided to go a step further and sell a ring with all proceeds going to the Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust.
The auction closed at 9.27pm last night and there were 16 bids placed in the final seven minutes. Users gtovit and fryfamily battled out in the final minutes, fryfamily winning the ring with a bid of $600.
The ring was listed with a reserve of $1, although Mr Clark said it would usually retail for around $450.
Breast cancer trust spokeswoman Kate Coote said last week the trust was absolutely thrilled that Mr Clark had created the ring and would be donating the proceeds.
