Fresh start for dairy owners

Another new business has opened in Nelson as more Christchurch earthquake refugees try to start again.

Chirag Tailor, 27, and his wife Nisha, 26, have relocated from Christchurch and opened a dairy at the Rutherford St-Waimea Rd corner last month.

Mr Tailor said the couple were spared any major damage or injury from the Christchurch earthquake, but they decided to make a fresh start in Nelson soon after seeing the lease advertised.

They decided to open a dairy because Mr Tailor had worked in a friend's Christchurch dairy for four years after their shift from India to New Zealand.

"Ever since 2008 I have worked in a dairy, so I have good experience," he said.

His new store, formerly a takeaway food shop, had been empty for a while and is close to another dairy on Waimea Rd, but the couple were undeterred about starting their own business.

"I just wanted to find a good opportunity to open a business and there are a lot of kids around here, with two schools nearby, so it's a great location."

Business had been good so far and they had taken a long-term lease, Mr Tailor said.
