Nelson's temporary ice skating rink will open at Tahunanui on December 15.
Christchurch events company Douglas Webber Group plans to install a $240,000 temporary ice rink and $1.4 million worth of portable infrastructure, such as roofing and food and drink stalls, at the beach domain over Christmas and New Year.
Ice World New Zealand has taken steps to allay concerns in Nelson about the amount of electricity needed to operate the rink, saying the technology involved would put it among the most "environmentally friendly ice rink systems in the world".
