Woman harassed by jilted lover

A Nelson man has repeatedly harassed a Blenheim woman, despite being held in custody three times in two days and regularly warned by police.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Mark Lucas said in the Blenheim District Court yesterday the offending began when Guy Peter Moore, 46, was drunk when he arrived from Nelson at his ex-girlfriend's house in Blenheim about 3.45am on November 10.

He was held at the Blenheim police station until the morning, but returned to the woman's house and had to be removed again by police three times that day and again the next day. 

Mr Lucas said when police first removed Moore from the woman's house he was held to sober up, but he began drinking again soon after being released and was back at the woman's house by 9.20am on Saturday.

Despite being trespassed and removed by police, he was back 20 minutes later and was arrested, he said. Moore was given a formal warning and released at 4.40pm only to return drunk to the woman's house at 5.45pm, where he was arrested again.

This time Moore was held in police cells for the night and was released at 6.10am on Sunday with bail conditions not to enter the woman's street. But by 8pm he was back again, drunk and was arrested again. 

Judge Susan Thomas said Moore had a 17-page criminal history and almost all his offences appeared to be alcohol-related. She sentenced Moore to 12 months' supervision to complete alcohol and drug counselling including a residential placement if required by probation and was ordered to complete 80 hours' community work after admitting two charges of trespass in Blenheim.
