A motorcyclist died on the Takaka Hill road yesterday after a collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The male motorcyclist died at the scene after the 5.45pm collision, which left the 4WD overturned on State Highway 60 near the bottom of the Golden Bay side of the hill.
Police have yet to release his name.
Nelson police said the motorcyclist was travelling up the hill when his bike collided with a Toyota Hilux.
A passenger in the 4WD was treated at the scene by the Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter’s intensive care paramedic, and was flown to Nelson Hospital along with the driver.
One of the occupants had a suspected broken arm.
The Takaka Hill road was closed to heavy traffic for a few hours last night, but a detour was created around the crash scene through a paddock for light vehicles.
The highway has since reopened to heavy traffic.
A serious crash investigator has been at the scene.
