A fairground is to add some fun to Nelson's summer.
JBC Shows will set up in the grounds of Auckland Point School from December 26 to January 15.
Owner John Couling said they wanted to create a mardi gras atmosphere. "There's no high pressure, we just want to see people having fun."
The fairground will include a large inflatable King Kong, a White Knuckle sidewinder ride, a ghost train described as "number one" in the southern hemisphere that includes Warner Bros props, side shows, carnivale food and baby show contests from December 26 until a final on January 1.
The show came to Nelson last year for three weeks and Mr Couling said they had decided to come back because Nelson was a great place to be in the summer.
The fairground will be an additional holiday attraction for the city, with a "winter wonderland" ice skating rink scheduled to open at Tahunanui Domain on December 15.
A $240,000 temporary ice rink and $1.4 million worth of portable infrastructure, such as roofing and food and drink stalls, will be set up at the beach domain over Christmas and New Year.
