Nelson police will be out in force this weekend, taking part in the sixth trans-Tasman alcohol campaign, Operation Unite.
The operation, a joint initiative of police commissioners across Australia and New Zealand, is part of the police's determination to challenge alcohol misuse, crime, violence and anti-social behaviour. Additional staff in Nelson Bays, Marlborough and the West Coast have been rostered on.
People can expect to see a highly visible police presence, with officers conducting drink-driving checkpoints, patrolling known trouble spots and conducting checks on licensed premises The operation starts today and will finish early on Sunday.
