Boxing Day in Golden Bay for Christchurch-based Adam Carlson and Paul Coggan was the same as last year, and the year before: Rock climbing.
They climbed Send a Gorilla at Paynes Ford, a grade 23 limestone rock wall at the world acclaimed climbing site.
"Every year since I moved to New Zealand 10 years ago I've come here," said Mr Carlson. "This is one of the few limestone slabs and that makes it pretty unique."
Mr Coggan said he, too, was drawn to Paynes Ford for climbing each summer.
"It's a bonus having the swimming, too," he said, referring to nearby Takaka River.
