Nelson fisheries worker Hilton Hone Heke who has been charged over the brutal rape of a woman in Nelson’s Victory community gardens has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance today..
Name suppression for Heke, 22, who lives in the Victory area, lapsed this morning. An interim suppression order had been made at his first appearance in the Nelson District Court yesterday so information posted on social media sites could be removed.
No pleas were entered on four charges of sexual violation, one charge of unlawful detainment, one charge of injuring with intent, one charge of aggravated injuring and one charge of indecent assault.
The charges relate to the rape of a 62-year-old woman in the community gardens on New Year’s Day. Heke is due to reappear in court on Friday.
