A 50-year-old Nelson man suffered head and face injuries after his vehicle struck a bank on the Gentle Annie hill near Hira, north of Nelson, this morning.
St John team manager Gary Tobin said the driver was taken to Nelson Hospital in a moderate condition.
Emergency services were called to the accident at 7.45am. The injured man was helped out of the car by St John paramedics.
Station officer Craig Davies, of the Nelson Fire Brigade, said the fire service assisted police with traffic control.
Mr Davies said it appeared the man had driven out of a driveway before hitting the bank.
