A 21-year-old Tapawera man suffered serious internal injuries when a motorcycle jump went wrong in the Stanley Brook area.
The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was called to pick up the man at 6pm on Saturday.
St John team manager Gary Tobin said the man was riding over a home-made jump on private property, and was injured when he landed incorrectly and became tangled up with his bike.
He was treated by the helicopter's onboard intensive care paramedic, and was flown to Nelson Hospital in a serious condition with abdominal injuries.
The man was treated by Tapawera St John paramedics before the helicopter arrived.
