Tahunanui Beach is a favourite summer spot for many Nelsonians and visitors to our region. This great shot by Pene Webber captures the joy of a good day at the beach.
Mr Webber, 19, took the photo on a Canon SX40 while hanging out with his mates.
He said he was taking photos of his friends mucking around, and decided that them jumping with their skim boards would make a good silhouette photo.
It took three attempts to capture the image. "Every time they jumped, they got in the way of each other or something." He was pleased with how it turned out.
"When I showed the boys, I was like, ‘This is awesome'."
The Allied Workforce temp said he got into photography while playing sport in the United States for six months. He took a photography class at a high school over there and had been taking pictures ever since, he said.
He liked the photo, as it summed up the bliss of a good summer day in the Nelson region.
"That's what I like about it, that it sort of shows summer here and the fun."
