A round of clay bird shooting sparked an armed police call-out to the Ruby Bay area this afternoon after a member of the public reported hearing gunshots.
Police spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said Motueka police had responded to the call, at about 2pm, but when they arrived it was a man who had been shooting clay birds on his property.
There had been no offence committed, and no one was in custody, she said.
Police had been stood down.
