The first ever Golden Bay Children's Festival is set to take place this Sunday at the Takaka Primary School in a blur of bouncy castles and animal balloons.

Golden Bay recreational co-ordinator and organiser Dave Myall says the day is designed to be fun and affordable for all.

"We've talked about celebrating Children's Day and I thought well, here's the perfect opportunity to offer an affordable day out for all families," he said.

Mr Myall said most activities are free or "really cheap, for example 50 cents".

Activities will include six bouncy castles, games, music, crafts, workshops, juggling, stilt walking, horse and cart rides, hula hooping and much more.

"Levity Beet will be the children's entertainer. He's the 2010 and 2012 New Zealand children's song award winner.

"Golden Bay's wonderful clown Tess James will be offering face painting and balloons."

Liam the magician will also be at the festival performing an array of magic tricks.

Golden Bay community worker Emma Brazendale said she will be offering information from SKIP (Strategies with kids information for parents).

"SKIP is MSD [Ministry of Social Development] funded. It's about supporting parents and caregivers to raise their children in a positive way," she said.

"They have heaps of wonderful resources which will be available at the children's festival.

"They're just tips and ideas, fun things, free resources."

The festival is funded by SKIP, Tasman District Council, the Golden Bay Community Board, Creativity Communities, Trash Palace, and Golden Bay Promotions.

The festival runs from 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
