Little Day Out goes mad
Nelsonians are being invited to go a little crazy in Victory Square next month.
The fourth annual Little Day Out takes place in the square on Sunday March 3 and this year organisers have picked a Mad Hatter's Tea Party theme. Co-ordinator Andrea Barker wants to see as many people dressed up as possible, even if it is just a colourful hat.
"There's nothing wrong with a bit of craziness in this world.
"It's better to wear your craziness on the outside of your head than the inside," she said.
Along with the live music and international food stalls, this year's Little Day Out will include an interactive Mad Hatter's Tea Party installation created by artist Lou-Darcie Lewis. Lou-Darcie is keeping much of its concept under wraps but did reveal to The Leader that it will be based around the playground.
"To get into the Mad Hatter's Tea Party you will have to be wearing a hat and go down the slide," she said.
The family friendly Little Day Out is organised by the Victory Community Association and this year's line-up of acts includes The Johnnys, The Immigrants, Samba del Sol and Dayna Sanerivi.
The day will also feature new three-piece The Rough Cuts and will start with the reggae act Smooth Cone Sounds.
There will also be a toddlers' zone and workshops in which for $10 adults will get the chance to make bird feeders out of old cups and saucers.
There will be prizes for the zaniest hats and anyone keen on making something special is welcome to attend workshops led by local artist Joanna Clouston being held at the Victory Community Centre in Totara St from 3pm to 5pm this Friday and from 1pm to 3pm this Saturday.
All ages welcome but children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
The Little Day Out is at Victory Square on Sunday 3 March from 1 pm to 7 pm. It is funded by Nelson City Council, Canterbury Community Trust, Creative New Zealand and Victory Community Association.
