Nelson police have spoken to an alleged offender in relation to an incident where a 21-year-old hitch-hiker said she was sexually assaulted in the Maitai Valley.
Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne McCoy said police had also re-interviewed the complainant and inquiries were continuing in relation to the incident.
The woman said she was picked up by a man in his 70s in Richmond on February 15 and instead of dropping her in Nelson the man drove her to the Maitai Valley.
It was the third reported sex attack in Nelson in February.
Mr McCoy said police were still waiting for forensic evidence in relation to the two separate sexually motivated attacks in the Queen's Gardens area which police said could be linked.
Mr McCoy said that as a result of testing that had been done police had requested further testing.
An 18-year-old woman was raped near Queen's Gardens on February 3, and a woman in her 40s was attacked near Normanby Bridge on February 7.
