A faulty cable is being repaired this afternoon that caused power cuts to more than 1000 households and businesses near Wakefield today.
Network Tasman chief executive Wayne Mackey said 936 electricity customers lost supply at 5.29am in Wakefield and south along the State Highway to Belgrove due to a suspected cable issue in the vicinity of the Wakefield Domain.
A further 622 customers lost supply during restoration of the fault at 6.36am while the network was being reconfigured.
Supply to most customers was restored by 7.48 am although 46 customers in Edward S remained without power until 8.15am while a damaged set of 11,000 volt fuses were replaced.
A further 40 customers were without power until 11.15am while Network Tasman's maintenance contractors confirmed the fault location. They identified the fault in a piece of cable between the tennis courts and Wakefield Domain.
Staff are continuing to investigate and will make repairs to the faulty cable later today, said Mr Mackey.
