For those who thought spring had arrived, Mother Nature has given a reminder of winter with a dusting of snow on hills around Nelson and a good dump on the skifields.
Snow could be seen on the Doubles from central Nelson after a cold front went through yesterday.
A further 20cm of snow has fallen at the Rainbow Ski Area south of Nelson, bringing the cover to between 50cm and 60cm.
"All facilities will be working this weekend and we will have perfect weather all weekend, which we are very excited about," Rainbow Ski Area spokesman Hamish Neill said.
Cable specialists from Auckland yesterday spliced the cable on the intermediate platter lift that had become untwined.
The ski season had been challenging with a dry and warm winter, but now there was plenty of snow with all runs off piste and the West Bowl open, he said.
MetService meteorologist Daniel Corbett said it be would fine all weekend. "It's perfect conditions."
In Nelson it would be fine and frosty at night, with the temperature creeping up to 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday. "It's a decent-size high hanging around for a few days."
