A Canadian woman has failed to turn up for a job she was due to start in Nelson, sparking a police appeal for information.

Joanna Lam, 24, and another Canadian, Connor Hayes, 25, were last seen at Fox Glacier on the afternoon of September 10.

Police say they are believed to be travelling together in a rental vehicle, but no description of the vehicle is available. Their direction of travel from Fox Glacier is also unknown.

Ms Lam failed to check in to her accommodation in Nelson on September 15 and the next day she failed to report to her first day of work in Nelson.

She had arranged the job, which was in the medical field, before coming to New Zealand.  She was quite a reliable and organised person, police spokesperson Barbara Dunn said.

Police and their families have concerns for their whereabouts, and are asking anyone who has seen them or knows where they may be to contact Hokitika Police, (03) 7568310
