A 44-year-old man who was seriously injured when a felled tree hit him was today in a stable condition in Nelson Hospital.
The man, who had been clearing trees at a private property on Grassmere Rd between Seddon and Ward was airlifted to hospital at just after 10am yesterday.
He was seriously injured after the tree fell on his lower leg, a spokesman for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said.
St John intensive care paramedic Matt Wilkinson said the tree was several metres long and about 700mm thick, and could be described as a "heavy log".
Ambulance crews from Blenheim initially treated the man at the scene and he received further treatment on board the chopper from an intensive care paramedic.
