Champ to defend title in Nelson
Moments after winning his title fight, New Zealand's heavyweight champion Joseph Parker said he hoped to defend his title in Nelson.
"I'll try my best [to defend the title in Nelson] whatever my team has planned, I'll definitely be there," said the boxing sensation on the way back to his changing room.
After stepping through the ropes, Parker's trainer, Kevin Barry, affirmed the plan to fight at the Battle of Trafalgar.
"We will, for sure," said Barry. "Our plan is to be in Nelson for our first fight in 2014."
The Battle of Trafalgar featuring Parker and yet unnamed opponent was "99 per cent" finalised after Parker knocked out Afa Tatupu early in the second round last night.
Dean Lonergan, of boxing and event promoters Duco Events, said he would fly to Nelson soon to confirm some dates with Barry Galbraith and Paul Hampton of Victory Boxing and hold discussions with the Nelson City Council.
