Laser tag coming to Nelson
Pro Karts Tahuna are racing to expand their offering to include laser tag.
Owner Nick Fowler said the company had spent the last 18 months planning for the expansion, and were now just waiting for the equipment to arrive.
The company has council consent to use a portion of land by the beach for a laser strike arena, with special bunkers on their way from China, and hopes to start up early next month.
The company has ordered 20 high-tech laser guns from the United States. The lightweight guns, about $1199 each, are used by the military for training, Mr Fowler said. They can also operate in daylight.
Laser tag will be offered over the summer months, and be open to group bookings around the year. He was also looking into offering a mobile service which could bring the equipment to the customer, handy for gala days or other events.
They had decided to offer laser tag after seeing an opening in the market. "[It's] the perfect complement for the cars, something that we can add on, it's something that we don't have in Nelson."
The new venture had proven popular, with an email announcement boosting the company's website traffic and attracting hundreds of Facebook "likes".
