A young woman has suffered life threatening injuries after a head-on crash near Murchison on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the smash on State Highway 65, south of Maruia, about 1.40pm.
A Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said it appeared a north-bound car collided head on with a ute exiting a single lane bridge.
The woman driver of the car, aged about 18, suffered life threatening injuries and had to be freed with specialist cutting equipment.
She was later flown to Nelson Hospital in a critical condition. Occupants of the ute suffered minor injuries.
In a separate incident, a rescue helicopter and paramedics have been dispatched to treat a 60-year-old man who fell from a motorcycle in Trentham Rd, Fairlie, about 3.30pm.
Further details were unavailable, police said.
