Three injured in waterfront crash

CRASH SCENE: The accident on the corner of Atawhai Drive and Queen Elizabeth II Drive (SH6) on Wednesday afternoon.

Three people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving two vehicles at the corner of Atawhai Drive and State Highway 6 at 12:30pm yesterday.

Police, ambulance and Nelson fire services attended the scene which involved a black Honda Civic and a black Toyota Corolla.

Sergeant Nick Kempthorne, of Nelson police, said it appeared one of the cars failed to see the other travelling along State Highway 6 and crashed into the side of the car as a result.

St John Ambulance spokesperson Karyn Bell confirmed three 20-year-olds were taken to Nelson Hospital with minor injuries following the crash.

A female from Stoke suffered leg and neck injuries, another woman had injured her chest and back and a male had injuries to his leg and shoulder.

There was a passenger in one of the vehicles, but they did not require hospital treatment.
