The man whose body was found in Greville Harbour, D'Urville Island, has been named as Donald Alastair MacKay.
Mr MacKay, 82, lived aboard his yacht Nokomis in the Nelson-Marlborough area, police said today.
Witnesses reported having seen Mr MacKay in a dinghy cleaning the hull of his yacht on Thursday afternoon. Later they noticed his dinghy adrift with no-one on board.
They went to secure the dinghy to Nokomis and discovered Mr MacKay's body floating nearby. It was identified by a family member.
Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
