Friends venture into fashion line
Two childhood friends from Nelson have launched a new lingerie label called Now or Never.
Wellington residents Emma Lodge and Olivia Lacey first met in Mrs Muller's French class at Nelson College for Girls during the late 1990s.
Both are now in Wellington where Ms Lodge works for Three Foot Seven, which designs costumes for Weta Workshop, while Ms Lacey is about to start a job in communications at Wellington's City Gallery.
Their first range with Now or Never's is titled "I am". It offers silk briefs, bras, camisoles, and slips with sheer detailing and intricate stitch work, designed and made by Ms Lodge in Wellington.
Ms Lacey takes care of the website and administrative details.
"We work together quite well as a team because we have different strengths and weaknesses."
The photoshoot in November involved another pair of Nelson women, photographer Sarah Burton and hair and makeup artist Kirstyn Hatton.
Ms Lacey said the label was born after a series of silk slips Ms Lodge made to wear under dresses became popular among their friends and family. Both women think natural fibres are important, but only polyester slips were available in stores.
All of their Now or Never pieces are made from silk fabrics. "We just thought it would be really nice to make something that felt nicer on your body."
Ms Lacey said it was important to her and Ms Lodge that their pieces were sleek and classic, meaning they could be worn on an everyday basis.
"They're not sort of fussy and frilly," she said. "They're subtle."
