The vibrancy of Nelson's Masked Parade lingers on in the form of children's paintings in the Suter Art Gallery.
The 38 children who take part in the Suter's after school art programme are staging their own exhibition.
They were given the theme Community Celebration using the annual Nelson Masked Parade as their topic because it brings the community together, said Suter educator Esther McNaughton
Then they zeroed in on the samba group Samba de Sol which took part in the parade.
Looking at photos they each chose a member of the group, then painted their portrait using acrylic on canvas.
Samba de Sol members who came along to the exhibition opening loved their portraits which will be on show until February.
