Motueka police are searching for a collectible 1965 Mark III Zephyr that was stolen in the early hours of Monday from the home of its Motueka owner.
The distinctive red vehicle has the license plate JKZCAR and owner John Kelly said he had posted photos of the vehicle all over the region.
He had contacted petrol stations to try and track its movement and said it is a "real gas-guzzler" that wouldn't get far between fills.
The car had been customised with a V8 engine and white leather interior and Mr Kelly estimated it was worth $70,000.
If anybody has seen the car since Monday, please contact the Motueka police at 528-1220.
